Tra Vinh: Welcoming and working with the mission of SPIR
On the morning of November 3, Mr. Nguyen Trung Hoang, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, received and worked with the delegation of SPIR Organization (USA) led by Mr. David Paul Kletzing, Head of the project office in Vietnam.

Recently, SPIR has sponsored Tra Vinh province to carry out activities under the Project "Tra Vinh Livelihood" and the Project "Supporting communities to cope with drought."

At the meeting, Deputy Director of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development Le Van Dong informed the delegation about the implementation results and the progress of the two projects. In phase 1 (2021-2022), the subproject "Tra Vinh Livelihood" is implemented in Tan Hiep and An Quang Huu communes (Tra Cu district). The subproject provides 80 cows in combination with grass planting, construction stables, and technical support for 80 households (poor households, Khmer, disadvantaged women) with a total budget of more than 2 billion VND. The sub-project "Supporting communities to cope with drought" helps 575 households in the Cau Ngang district to the rural clean water supply system and 60 families to access clean water containers and support tanks containing 2,000 liters of water for 160 households.

Tra Vinh Department of Agriculture and Rural Development has just implemented the project "Tra Vinh Livelihood" phase 2 (2022-2023), with a total capital of over 3.5 billion VND. The project will implement the livelihood model in Don Chau and Ngu Lac communes (Duyen Hai district) and respond to drought and climate change in Long Son, Truong Tho, and Hiep Hoa communes (Cau Ngang district). Duyen Hai district has 70 households benefiting through investment support in raising cows in combination with growing grass and building stables; Cau Ngang district has 370 homes benefiting from the supply of clean water.

Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Nguyen Trung Hoang thanked SPIR for creating favorable conditions for the vulnerable and disadvantaged people in the province to have access to clean water. Besides, the project helps improve people's awareness of environmental sanitation, improving and enhancing the quality of life, raising incomes, and eliminating poverty.

At the same time, the Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee emphasized that the close cooperation between the province and SPIR is a prerequisite for the project's success. The Department of Agriculture and Rural Development plays a vital role as a policy implementation agency. Meanwhile, the Provincial People's Committee always pays close attention to and coordinates with donors to carry out activities on propaganda, implementation, and cooperation promotion, especially monitoring and mobilizing people to fulfill their commitments to donors.

Tra Vinh province hopes that SPIR will continue cooperating to promote aid for the remaining localities in the region to diversify the livestock sector, support livelihood models, meet national organic and high-tech agriculture standards, and access clean water for healthy use.

Expressing his joy at the province's enthusiasm in recent years, Mr. David Paul Kletzing hoped that in the coming time, the two sides would continue to cooperate and jointly implement projects smoothly, bringing high efficiency to the community. Additionally, Mr. David Paul Kletzing affirmed that SPIR would continue to accompany the province. At the same time, the province is expected to continue to support relevant legal procedures, proactively propose priority funding programs suitable to the province's needs, and remove problems when implementing projects and implementation time frame.
