Minister of Education and Training Nguyen Kim Son meets with provincial leaders to discuss education matters
On the afternoon of May 11, a delegation from the Ministry of Education and Training (MOET), led by Minister Nguyen Kim Son, held a meeting with provincial leaders to discuss the state of education and training in the region.

Also present were representatives from various departments under the MOET. On the provincial side, the meeting was attended by Mr. Kim Ngoc Thai, Standing Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee and Chairman of the Provincial People's Council, and Mr. Le Van Dau, Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee and Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, along with leaders from the Departments of Education and Training, Finance, Home Affairs, Planning and Investment, and the People's Committees of districts, towns, and cities. Representatives from universities and colleges in the province were also in attendance.

Providing a detailed report on the local education and training situation, Director of the Department of Education and Training, Nguyen Thi Bach Van, stated that the province currently has 416 school units, including kindergartens, preschools, primary, junior high, and high schools, as well as 9 continuing education centers, 1 Pali Khmer middle school, 1 pedagogical practice school, 1 college, and 1 university.

The management staff and teachers in the province are generally sufficient in quantity, and the quality has been continuously improving. The percentage of staff and teachers meeting the required qualifications has increased each year, fulfilling the requirements of the educational program. The province has a total of 14,328 officials, teachers, and employees, with 71.82% of teachers possessing qualifications meeting the standard, and 19.81% surpassing the standard.

The network of schools and classes is regularly reviewed and organized to strengthen and develop in accordance with the planned objectives. This involves merging smaller schools, gradually eliminating outliers, and focusing on upgrading and expanding main educational facilities to implement the new general curriculum as per the provided roadmap. There are currently 8,178 classrooms and other functional rooms, with 92.94% being permanent rooms, 7.06% semi-permanent classrooms, and no temporary classrooms.

The Director of Tra Vinh Province's Department of Education and Training has proposed to the Minister of Education and Training to prioritize the allocation of programs and projects for the sector. This will create favorable conditions for Tra Vinh province to overcome difficulties and advance the field of education in the near future. Adjustments and additions to policies supporting tuition fees and living expenses for pedagogical students, policies related to emulation and commendation, as well as the allocation of targeted support budgets for local projects, are being sought. These initiatives aim to ensure the necessary resources for preschool and general education programs. Additionally, there are plans to promptly issue guidelines for tutoring and mentoring activities, ensuring uniform and synchronized implementation across the country.

During the meeting, representatives from the Ministry of Education and Training exchanged various insights and ideas with the province regarding teacher payrolls, funding for facility investments, school consolidation, and classroom enhancements. They emphasized the importance of building a team that ensures both quantity and quality, while maintaining a focus on school facilities and equipment.

Concluding the meeting, Minister of Education and Training Nguyen Kim Son acknowledged the efforts, attention, and achievements of Tra Vinh's education sector. Furthermore, the province will continue to prioritize education by ensuring adequate budget allocation, arranging the educational network's planning, and giving importance to teaching and learning equipment. There will be a strong focus on implementing the 2018 general education program in the upcoming school year, as well as training and guiding teachers in the use of textbooks for grades 4, 8, and 11.

Additionally, preparations will be made for the organization of the High School Graduation Exam in 2023, along with a comprehensive review of the 10 years of implementing Resolution No. 29-NQ/TW, dated November 4, 2013, issued by the Party Central Committee (XI term). This resolution pertains to the fundamental and comprehensive renovation of education and training to meet the requirements of industrialization, modernization, and a market-oriented socialist economy.

Speaking at the meeting, Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, Le Van Han, expressed his gratitude for the delegation's comments and the Minister's input. The province will prioritize the allocation of the investment budget for education, promote digital transformation, encourage the participation of the private sector in education, and focus on improving education in ethnic minority areas.
